Start your tour through Communist Bucharest with a visit to Revolution Square, site of the most important events in Romania history. Visit The Revolution Square, the starting point of the demonstrations that led to the fall of the dictatorship of Nicole Ceausescu. Our next stop will be at University Square, a site closely related to the dramatic events of the 1989 Revolution in Bucharest – see the Revolution Memorial.
One of the most interesting visit will be House of the People or Palace of Parliament, including the presidential balcony where Ceausescu intended to hold his public speeches, or to watch the ceremonies dedicated to himself.
Your tour winds down at Casa Scanteii (“House of the Spark”, presently the House of Free Press), a Stalinist era symbol standing among the most interesting edifices in Bucharest, the only one bearing the “Hammer and Sickle” and other communist insignia.
Get to know how a former Communist dictator and his family lived. Ceausescu Mansion was recently opened to the public in 2018, displaying the extravagant lifestyle of the former Romanian dictator’s family. You will visit the private apartments of the family members, the cinema hall and wine cellar, SPA area and the indoor pool, the winter garden and even a collection of their clothes. The tour of Spring Palace comprises approximately 50 rooms, most of them having opulent decorations.
The communist tour of Bucharest continue towards Balta Alba-Titan district, a communist era residential district established in the 1960s in the eastern suburbs of the city. Built around a lake and a park, this was the largest urban development in Bucharest, conceived to provide homes with modern facilities for 450,000 people. The district was meant to embody the “communist paradise”, a showcase of a “bright future”.
