Enjoy a day trip from Sibiu to some of the best tourist attractions of Transylvania.
A day of legends and fortresses; enjoy a day trip from Sibiu to some of the best tourist attractions of Transylvania.
Leaving behind the charming medieval city of Sibiu, we are heading westward deeper in Transylvania Region. After about two hours, your first destination rose dramatically into view: Corvin Castle – the fairytale stronghold of Hunedoara.
Perched on a rocky hill and crossed by a wooden drawbridge, this Gothic-Renaissance masterpiece looked as if torn from the pages of a medieval saga. Once home to the powerful Hunyadi family, the castle’s massive towers and endless halls echoed with stories of knights, Vlad the Impaler, and long-forgotten prisoners. You wandered through dimly lit chambers, admired intricate stone carvings, and looked out from the balconies where once royalty stood.
Leaving this mysterious gothic castle behind we head towards Alba Iulia, one of the best preserved Vauban style fortress in Europe.
Walk along bastions and towers of Alba Iulia, visiting the Unification Cathedral or the beautiful decorations of the imposing gates.
Once we arrive in Alba Carolina Fortress we will explore this imposing star-shaped citadel. The fortress was built in the 18th century on the ruins of ancient Roman camp, and a medieval citadel. You entered through massive gates and stepped into a world of marble columns, imperial halls, and broad promenades. Here, where Roman emperors once marched and where the modern Romanian state was born in 1918, you followed the footsteps of centuries.
You explored the Union Hall, the Orthodox and Catholic cathedrals, the Roman castrum ruins, and the beautifully preserved bastions and ramparts.
Castles and citadels behind you, the road now led back to the present—but the stories of the day remained vivid, echoing like footsteps on the cobblestones of memory.
