The tour starts in Bucharest with a morning drive towards Transylvania. The route crosses the Southern Carpathians and introduces you to the mountain scenery that separates Wallachia from Transylvania.
The first major stop of the day is Sinaia, where you visit Peleș Castle, one of the most beautiful castles in Europe.
Commissioned by King Carol I in 1873 and completed in 1883, Peleș Castle is a masterpiece of German New-Renaissance architecture. Its 160 rooms are decorated with European art, Murano crystal chandeliers, German stained-glass windows, Cordoba leather wall coverings, Meissen and Sèvres porcelain, and ebony and ivory sculptures.
After the visit to Sinaia, the route continues towards Brașov via Bran village. Here you visit Bran Castle, one of the most famous castles in Romania and a site often associated with the Dracula legend.
The castle stands on a 200 ft. tall rock, overlooking the picturesque village of Bran. Inside, it houses a rich collection of Romanian and foreign furniture and art objects from the 14th to the 19th centuries.
The day continues with the drive to Brașov, a historic city surrounded by the Southern Carpathians. The city is located in central Romania, about 166 km from Bucharest, and is part of the Transylvania region.
Brașov is one of the best starting points for trips around Romania and one of the largest cities in a mountain resort area. Its old town is well preserved and can also be admired from above by taking the cable car to Tâmpa Mountain, located at 995 m.
Lunch is at leisure and is not included in the tour price.
Accommodation in Brașov at Boutique Hotel Casa Wagner or Bella Muzica Hotel 3*
Dinner is at leisure and is not included in the tour price.
Your visit to Brașov begins in the Town Hall Square, where you can admire colorful painted buildings and ornate Baroque structures.
You will visit the Black Church, the largest Gothic church in Romania, and continue to Catherine’s Gate, built in 1559 and the only original medieval city gate that still survives.
The tour also includes the Weavers’ Bastion, the largest medieval bastion in Brașov and the best-preserved of the seven original watchtowers built around the city walls.
On the way to Sighișoara, you stop in Viscri to visit the fortified church.
Viscri is one of the most distinctive villages in Transylvania and one of the reasons many travelers choose to explore the region. The village is also connected with King Charles III, who, as Prince Charles of Great Britain, became known for his interest in Romania and Transylvanian villages.
After the visit to Viscri, the tour continues to Sighișoara.
You will explore the old town of Sighișoara, with its cobbled streets, burgher houses and ornate churches. The central area has preserved the features of a small medieval fortified city and is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
The visit starts along the medieval streets and includes the Clock Tower, also known as the Council Tower, built in the second half of the 14th century and expanded in the 16th century.
You will also see the Venetian House, built in the 16th century, and visit Dracula’s House, where Vlad Țepeș was born in 1431 and lived with his father until 1435.
The walking tour continues along the Covered Staircase towards the Church on the Hill.
Each July, a Medieval Festival takes place in the old citadel. The houses inside the Citadel of Sighișoara show the main features of a craftsmen’s town, including houses that belonged to the former town elite, such as the Venetian House and the House with Antlers.
Accommodation in the Upper Town of Sighișoara at House with Antlers 3*
Dinner is at leisure and is not included in the tour price.
After breakfast, you travel towards Sibiu, with a stop in Biertan.
Biertan is a UNESCO site and one of the first German settlements in Transylvania. The name “Biertan” was first attested in 1283, and the settlement had township status.
The fortified church of Biertan is surrounded by three rows of fortifications. Built by German peasants in Transylvania, it was used for nearly 300 years as the residence of the Transylvanian Archbishop.
One room inside the citadel was used for a long time as a reconciliation place for couples who were about to divorce. Your guide will share the full story during the visit.
Before noon, you arrive in Sibiu, the chief city of the Transylvanian Saxons.
Sibiu is one of the largest cities in Transylvania, with a population of about 160,000. It straddles the Cibin River, a tributary of the Olt River, and is one of the most important cultural and religious centers in Romania. It is also a major transportation hub in central Romania.
The city used to be the center of the Transylvanian Saxons in Romania until World War II. In 2007, Sibiu was designated European Capital of Culture together with Luxembourg.
You will take a leisurely walking tour of Sibiu and visit the old defense walls and the remaining towers, each once belonging to a certain guild.
One of the landmarks of the city is the Brukenthal Museum, assembled by Baron Brukenthal, governor of Transylvania at the end of the 18th century.
You will also see the Evangelical Cathedral, completed in its present shape in 1520. Inside the church, an important fresco of the Crucifixion on the north wall of the choir dates from 1445.
The walking tour continues with the Passage of Stairs, which links the Upper Town to the Lower Town, the 1859 Liar’s Bridge and the Byzantine-style Orthodox Cathedral, a replica of St. Sophia in Constantinople.
Lunch and dinner are at leisure and are not included in the tour price.
Overnight in Sibiu at Casa Luxemburg 3* or similar.
After leaving Sibiu, you cross the mountains through the Olt River Valley, one of the most spectacular valleys crossing the Southern Carpathians. A Transfăgărășan scenic road extension is available from June to November.
The next stop is Curtea de Argeș, the first capital of Wallachia.
Here you visit the old Princely Court and the monastery, the burial place of three of the four Romanian kings of the Hohenzollern dynasty.
After the visit to Curtea de Argeș, you drive to Bucharest.
The tour ends with overnight in Bucharest on your own or with a transfer to Bucharest Henri Coandă Airport.

EXCELLENT Based on 107 reviews Posted on Tripadvisor Glosdude RVerified Excellent tour around Romania visiting Transylvania and the painted monasteries in Bucovina I had a great time on a private tour during November, which was booked at extremely short notice. Ion did an amazing job putting together the tour within 24 hours, and we started the trip only a couple of days after enquiring which was amazing! His communication was really fast, clear and helpful, and our driver/guide Florin was great - both ensured we had a wonderful time in Romania. The choice of accommodation was brilliant, varying from modern hotels to centuries-old period properties. I would thoroughly recommend contacting Romania Tour Store for anyone looking to travel in Romania with a friendly, reliable and trustworthy local company.Posted on Tripadvisor Romy16205Verified What an amazing trip! From beginning to end, Ion was absolutely fantastic. We spent 11 days with him traveling Bulgaria and Romania, and I have to say—he covered every single detail. He was incredibly accommodating, taking into account our preferences, offering helpful suggestions, and always finding the best dining spots. Before the trip even began, Ion was efficient and thorough, providing us with several itinerary options to ensure we could visit all the places we were interested in. Believe me when I say, my husband is a very difficult traveler—but Ion made everything so easy and fun that, by the end, they were like best friends! We had a passport mishap, leaving them behind in Bulgaria, and as soon as we arrived in Romania and realized, Ion immediately jumped into action. He contacted the hotel and made sure the issue was resolved quickly and smoothly. One of the highlights of the trip was being welcomed into Ion and his wife’s home, where they prepared a delicious homemade meal for us. It was a fantastic evening, full of authenticity and warmth—we truly felt like family.Ion also helped us find the best hotels for our stay and coordinated the entire trip from start to finish. At every attraction we visited, he was knowledgeable and provided detailed explanations, adding so much value to the experience.I highly recommend Romania Tour Store if you're planning a trip to Romania and Bulgaria. Afterwards we went towards Hunedoara to visit the very beautiful castle there. Finally to Alba Iulia to see the citadel (star), including the churches and the history behind it. Also very interesting the story of Hunyadi. Highly recommended, the guide was very nice and everything was relaxed. Well organised and ready to help his group in any situation. I recommend him 100%.Posted on Tripadvisor JIT_12Verified Ion Dima...a great tour guide! This review is very tardy due to the situation in the world from January 2020 until now. I was so fortunate to have found Ion Dima during my planning of a visit to Romania which was during the summer of 2019.( I had to enter 12/21 in the description since that was the oldest date available.) I had several days to fill in with a visit to important points of interest in Romania before I joined a group in Bucharest. The group and I were heading into Moldova, Transnistria, and Ukraine. We were only doing the Danube Delta down on the Black Sea and I didn't want to miss seeing something of Romania. Well, Ion designed a terrific tour for me that was very complete! He speaks perfect English and was very considerate and great fun to be around. I highly reccommend arranging a tour with Ion...he's the best!!Posted on Tripadvisor DollyBirdScotlandVerified Bespoke service We are just back from an extended tour of Romania with Romania Tour Stores. It's a bespoke travel company which specialises in private tours for culture vultures. From Bucharest's Belle Epoq architecture we travelled to the cultural centre of Iasi, the painted monasteries of Moldavia, and through the fortified Saxon churches and towns of Transylvania. Finally, we arrived in the stunning city of Brasov in the Carpathians where the Austro-Hungarian influence sits on the edge of Wallachia and Byzantium. Grand hotels and traditional wooden cabins. Each day felt like being in a different age or country. A superbly organised tour of this fascinating country. We are planning a return visit next year.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
