Tickets, Opening Hours and Practical Tips

Book your Peleș Castle tickets at least one week before your visit. For summer dates, weekends and public holidays, Romania Tour Store recommends booking several weeks in advance.

Entry tickets are sold for specific time intervals, and the castle currently limits admission to 2,000 visitors per day. Visitors enter in order of arrival during the interval shown on their ticket.

How Far in Advance Should You Book Peleș Castle Tickets?

Romania Tour Store recommends booking your Peleș Castle tickets at least a few days in advance, or even several weeks ahead during busy periods. The castle is particularly crowded in the early morning, as many visitors arrive from Bucharest on organised tours or travel independently.

Peleș Castle is part of the most popular day trip from Bucharest, which also includes a visit to the medieval city of Brașov and Bran Castle.

  • Book at least one week ahead for a regular weekday.
  • Book several weeks ahead for weekends, summer dates and Romanian public holidays.
  • Secure the castle ticket before finalising the rest of your day-trip arrangements.
  • Do not assume tickets will be available at the entrance.

Why advance booking is important

Since the summer of 2025, the visiting rules at Peleș Castle have changed, and the number of visitors is now limited to 2,000 per day. For this reason, we recommend booking your tickets at least one week in advance. For weekend visits, you should book even earlier.

Guided tours in English:

Wednesday: 10:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:30 PM, 1:30 PM, 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM, which is the last guided tour.

Thursday–Sunday: 9:45 AM, 10:45 AM, 11:45 AM, 12:45 PM, 1:45 PM, 2:45 PM and 3:15 PM, which is the last guided tour.

Visitors who do not wish to join a guided tour may explore the castle individually. However, there are often considerable queues and long waiting times. Information about the objects and the history of the castle is available in several international languages in each room. During summer mornings, the waiting time may be as long as one hour.

Another important aspect is choosing the right visiting interval. Morning time slots tend to sell out first, as some travel agencies purchase more tickets than they need. A maximum of 500 places is available for each time interval.

For example, if you do not manage to arrive during the first time slot, from 10:00 AM to 12:45 PM, you may enter after 12:45 PM. After waiting in the queue for either an individual or guided visit, you will need to scan the QR code generated when you purchased your ticket before entering the castle.

The interior of the castle is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but visitors may still see the exterior.

Wednesday visiting intervals:

10:00 AM–12:45 PM
12:45 PM–2:30 PM
2:30 PM–4:00 PM

Thursday–Sunday visiting intervals:

9:15 AM–11:00 AM
11:00 AM–12:45 PM
12:45 PM–2:30 PM
2:30 PM–4:00 PM

The last individual entry is currently at 16:00. Because museum schedules may change for events, maintenance or temporary closures, advise readers to check the official website shortly before travelling.

This system was introduced to protect the historic and artistic heritage of Peleș Castle, reduce congestion inside the exhibition rooms, provide visitors with a more comfortable experience and manage the flow of tourists more efficiently through scheduled time intervals.

Unfortunately, the system continues to cause confusion for many visitors. It also gives some agencies operating shared tours the opportunity to purchase more tickets than they can sell or to resell them at a higher price, sometimes even twice the original amount, when tourists have not booked their tickets in advance.

  • Admission is limited to 2,000 visitors per day.
  • Tickets are connected to specific visiting intervals.
  • Entry is made in order of arrival during the purchased interval.
  • Tickets purchased for a scheduled visit cannot currently be rescheduled.

Peleș Castle is one of the most visited and highly regarded tourist attractions in Eastern Europe. It was built by King Carol I and Queen Elisabeth as a summer residence. At the time, it was one of the most modern palaces in Europe, equipped with electricity, running water, a lift and a central heating system. It was later fitted with a central vacuum-cleaning system.

Although Peleș Castle was inaugurated in 1883, after eight years of intensive construction work and several problems involving the ground and water infiltration, it houses much older works of art. These objects came from the Hohenzollern family’s collections at other residences and castles throughout Europe, as well as from gifts presented to the Romanian royal family on various occasions.

Which time slots sell out first?

As a general rule, the first morning time slot sells out first:

Wednesday: 10:00 AM–12:45 PM
Thursday–Sunday: 9:15 AM–11:00 AM

However, the Peleș National Museum does not publish official statistics confirming the exact order in which the time slots sell out. The official programme states that admission is limited to 2,000 visitors per day and that tickets are allocated by time slot.

The main reason is that many day trips from Bucharest depart at around 7:00 AM and visit Peleș Castle as their first stop, before continuing to Bran Castle and Brașov. As a result, coaches, minibuses and independent travellers tend to arrive at approximately the same time.

The first time slot is also popular because it allows visitors to continue afterwards to Bran, Brașov or other attractions in the Prahova Valley. Recent visitor reports also indicate that the earliest time slot frequently sells out first, particularly at weekends.

How Does the Peleș Castle Ticket System Work?

Where should you buy tickets?

The official Peleș Castle online ticket platform.

https://bilete.peles.ro/museums/castel-peles

Simple steps to follow:

  1. Choose the date.
  2. Select an available visiting interval.
  3. Choose the appropriate ticket category.
  4. Complete the purchase.
  5. Keep the electronic ticket available on your phone.

Can you enter at any time during the day?

No. Visitors should arrive during the time interval printed on their ticket.

If you miss your booked visiting time slot, entry during a later interval is not guaranteed. Tickets are valid only for the selected time slot and cannot be rescheduled or refunded.

Do tour guides also need entrance tickets?

Licensed Romanian tour guides may enter the castle only if they purchase an admission ticket, just like any other visitor. However, at certain times, guided tours in English are organised by the castle’s own guides.

From 1 November 2025, tourism guides must have an admission ticket to enter the Peleș National Museum.

Should You Choose a Guided or Individual Visit?

English guided visit

Guided tours are formed at the entrance in order of arrival. The official museum guide service currently has no additional fee beyond the admission ticket.

The official English-language tour may be useful for visitors who want historical context and explanations about the rooms and collections.

Guided tours in English:

Wednesday: 10:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:30 PM, 1:30 PM, 2:30 PM, 3:30 PM (last guided tour)

Thursday- Sunday 9:45 AM, 10:45 AM, 11:45 AM, 12:45 AM, 1:45 PM, 2:45 PM, 3:15 PM ( last guided tour)

  • English tours operate at designated times.
  • Groups are formed at the entrance.
  • Participation depends on arrival order and available capacity.

If you do not wish to join a guided tour of the palace, you can visit independently. However, there are often long queues and considerable waiting times. In each room, you will find information in several international languages about the exhibits and the history of the palace. During summer mornings, the waiting time can be as long as one hour.
