Romania is located on a map on the eastern part of Europe, close to Turkey and Russia. Romania has common borders with Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Ukraine, Moldavian republic.

Romania is country considered as an eastern european country, close to many balkanic countries as serbia and bulgaria. However it is not a balkanic country, since its language is latin, and is more likely to look like Italia, or spanish.
Romania has rougthly the size of oregon, extending approximately for 450 km from north to south and 800km from east to west. 31% of the territory is covered of mountains, peaking at 2544m (Mount Moldoveanu). The mountains form what is called a carpathic arc, and almost separates naturaly Transilvania from the rest of the country.
Forest can be found throughout the country, covering approximately 30% of its surface. Romania is considered to co ntain 70% of europe’s primarily forests.

The country is divided in regions, corresponding to a major city, around which are gathered communes. Regions are the largest division. You can find 41 of them, plus the capital city wich counts for a special administrative unit.
Romania is the twelfth largest country in Europe with an area of 238 397 square kilometers.
Main roads map between cities
Romania is connected to Europe highway network close to Arad (Romania), and Szeged (Hungary).
At the east, Bucharest is connected through a Highway to the black sea and the city of Constanta.
There are many construction works at the moment, so Romania will soon have a more densified network of highways.

The country is known for being in the past a communist dictature, under the rule of Nicolae Ceausescu.

A great historical personage, Vlad the impaler, inspired the legend of Dracula, which is now famous all around the world.

In 2004, Romania join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and in 2007 it became a member of the european Union.
As a European citizen, You can travel in and from Romania with a passport, no need for a visa.
As a citizen from the rest of the world, you may need a visa. Romania is currently in the process of joining the Schengen area.
You can ay both in Euro and in the local money called Leu RON.
Romania is a semi-presidential republic with a head of government – the prime minister – and a head of state – the president. Executive functions are held by both government and the president.
