The Untold Festival is one of Romania’s largest music festivals, held annually in Cluj-Napoca. Here’s the information you need to attend this great event.
Where is located the UNTOLD festival
The UNTOLD festival typically takes place in late July or early August each year. It is held in the city of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. The exact dates may vary from year to year, so it’s advisable to check the official website for the most up-to-date information.
It is available at this address: untold.com
Cluj Napoca is a city located in Transilvania, in the center of the country. It has an international airport (CLJ), and is linked to many cities in Europe thanks to a lot of lowcost airlines, among them : Ryanair, Wizzair, etc..
You can reach Cluj’s airport from many big cities in countries like Italy, Germany, France, united Kingdom, Belgium, greece, Netherlands, Spain, Sweeden, Poland.
The airport is located 15 minutes away from the city center by taxi or airport shuttle.
You can as well come to Cluj Napoca by train or bus. It is connected to Europe through the A3/A10 Highway.
The magic of UNTOLD festival
It all started in 2015, when Cluj-Napoca was designated European Capital of Culture after winning the competition in which other 48 European countries entered. From the first edition, the UNTOLD festival won the “Best Major Festival” award and the “Brand of the Year” title again in 2015.
Thus through this event, the city of Cluj becomes for 4 days in August the “capital of the world and of magic”. And 30,000 festival-goers come from the four corners of Romania and now from all over Europe.
The theme of the festival is built around magic, mystery and heroic fantasy and abstraction, like a fable. The decoration of the festival is downright unreal with ultra-colorful patterns describing a supernatural world with giant monsters, wolves, flowers everywhere.
Playing on the legend of Dracula, in 2015 the festival offered a reduction in the price of the entrance ticket or a day pass to those who donated blood. The poster read: “Just pay with your blood.” A great and useful marketing idea given that Romania is facing a significant blood shortage.
The music scene at Untold is very broad and each of us can find what we’re looking for, but overall it’s more electro: house, techno, deep-house, disco. You can also find dubstep, drum, rock and traditional Romanian music.

Legends say that Vlad Țepeș would have impaled his own soldiers found on the battlefield wounded in the back (showing that they would have tried to flee in front of the enemy) and he would have impaled one out of twelve soldiers among those who refused to go in combat. The executioner refusing, Vlad would have pierced him on the spot.
The bloodthirsty side of Vlad Țepeș would have given the inspiration for the character of Count Dracula.
